How Did I Get Here?
With mental health month coming to an end, I wanted to talk a little more about how I ended up creating this blog and share the story you might not know.
If you've read anything on this website, you probably already know that I began writing about mental health to help others remember that they are not alone. I've always wanted to write for that exact reason, but there is more to it than that.
Writing has also been an amazing outlet for me, personally. I began journaling in 2018 right before I stopped going to therapy. My psychologist was about to go on maternity leave, and when she returned she would no longer be seeing patients in the practice. I was scared to continue my mental health journey on my own, I was still so new at all of this, what was I going to do? The answer was writing. I used to believe that I didn’t have anything “interesting” to write about—as if I was going to be publishing my diary at eleven years old.
I turned to journaling when I was really struggling. When I first started figuring things out on my own, I still didn’t have the language to voice what I was feeling and going through. I began pulling out my journal to put things into words and organizing my thoughts before talking about them with someone else. This blog is similar to that, in a way. I have written so many blog posts that have never been posted because I wasn’t ready to publicly talk about the topics, but I just needed to get the thoughts out.
I hope this blog has been helpful to some of you. My goal is to let other people know that they are not alone in their mental health struggles, that there are a lot of us who feel the same way or have dealt with the same things.
I also want to thank you all for spending time with me on here. I will forever be grateful for your time and engagement, and I hope you stick with me for a while.
Happy Mental Health Awareness Month, ya’ll. You are so incredibly valuable.
