Do Me A Favor
There's a lot going on in the world right now.
I guess you could say that for everything that's happened over the last two years, but it feels different this week. I'm not going to say specifically what I'm talking about, because I want this to be a reminder for all of us in hard or stressful times.
I'm sure you’ve already seen posts online from people saying to log off social media and turn off the news, and here I am saying the exact same thing. Ironic, I know, to be telling you to get offline while you're reading my blog…online.
I don't have any advice for you besides that. Put your phone down. Read a book–bonus points for fiction to get your mind somewhere else. Listen to a funny podcast or something with an interesting story. Play a video game, watch your favorite TV show. Maybe write some fanfiction, if you're into that. Just take a little while to do things you enjoy.
I can’t tell you that everything is going to work out, as much as I would like to. I’m having a hard time believing that right now myself. Whatever happens, we’ll get though it together, I know that much.
I hope you’re able to step away from it all for a bit. You deserve it. You deserve a break.
I’ll leave you with a paraphrased version of the first line of The Anthropocene Reviewed by John Green:
“It is [insert date here] and I do not have a brain well suited to this.”
Same, John. Same.
Stay safe out there, ya’ll. I’m rooting for you.
