Hey there.

You’ve probably heard by now that there was a mass shooting at Michigan State University last night. Three people are dead, five in critical condition. These situations are always gut-wrenching, but it’s heavier when it’s close to home.

I’m tired. I know you are, too. Tired of being afraid no matter where you go, tired of always looking for exits in any new place, tired of explaining the fear and dread that fills us to people who somehow still don’t understand. They don’t understand what it’s like to have been through active threat drills since being in kindergarten. They refuse to understand. All they’ll say is that “the world has gone crazy” and that’s the end of it.

Usually I’m here to tell you to feel your feelings and do what you need to do that. Today, I’m telling you to do whatever you need to get by. Distract yourself. Journal, call a friend, scroll on tiktok for hours and hours. Do whatever it takes to make it through the day.

It’s completely normal to be angry and scared and tired. I don’t have any answers for you, either.

If you’re struggling with your mental health today, know that you aren’t alone. You are loved, seen, and valued, even when it doesn’t feel like it.
